Netflix’s Hollywood, created by Ryan Murphy and frequent collaborator Ian Brennan, is a star-studded affair about post-WWII Hollywood.

Ryan Murphy is back again with a new provocative series, and this time it takes a look behind the gilded curtain of post-WWII Hollywood. Netflix’s Hollywood is an upcoming miniseries that promises to shed light on the many difficulties faced by those of different races and sexualities during the golden age of moviemaking.

TVLine unveiled the trailer earlier today, and in their own words, the series shows that “the Tinseltown life is also frustrating, lonely and very, very weird.”

You won’t have to wait too long to watch the show for yourself, since it debuts on May 1. Right now, Netflix’s Hollywood is being billed as a miniseries, but if it becomes as popular as some of Murphy’s other projects I imagine it will get renewed quick, and likely become another star-studded anthology series to add to the mega-producer’s resume in the process.

Based on the trailer, the series will focus on Archie Coleman’s (newcomer Jeremy Pope) journey into making his film Dreamland into a reality. But as a black man in Hollywood, Archie faces many obstacles, similar to Laura Harrier’s character.

It also looks like Hollywood will focus on the difficulties faced by gay people, many of whom were forced to remain in the closet lest they be vilified.

Per TVLine, the logline for the series reads:

"“Provocative and incisive, Hollywood exposes and examines decades-old power dynamics, and what the entertainment landscape might look like if they had been dismantled.”"

Murphy’s latest drama will tell an alternate history of Hollywood, with each character getting a distinctive narrative arc that represents a different perspective on the glitzy world of filmmaking.

If the plot alone doesn’t interest you, the incredible cast just might. Aside from Pope and Harrier Hollywood stars Holland Taylor, Samara Weaving, Darren Criss, Jim Parsons, Dylan McDermott, Maude Apatow, and Patti LuPone.
