Love 101 Season 1, Episode 4 recap: A wrench in the plan

In episode 4 of Love 101, everything gets thrown into disarray when the teens learn that Burcu already has a boyfriend! But they won’t let that stop them.

We’ve reached the midway point of the season, and things are quickly becoming more complicated between the teen protagonists of Love 101.

Burcu throws a significant wrench into their plans when they learn she already has a boyfriend! Plus, Sinan puts his health at risk to further their goals and winds up paying a potentially devastating price for it.

Kemal and Burcu update

Initially, it looks like maybe Burcu and Kemal can get back on the same page. Burcu awakens in the middle of a steamy dream about her fellow teacher. But she’s ashamed of it.

Burcu has been hiding something throughout the season. Her reaction to Kemal at her house the morning after the concert, coupled with her decision to avoid him ever since implied that she had a secret.

In this episode, we discover that Burcu already has a boyfriend. Not only that, but they’re engaged!

She highlighted a day of the month in a red heart on her calendar. We learn the significance of that day at the end of the episode. She and her now-fiancé take part in a special ceremony to signify their relationship.

Despite the romantic trappings, it doesn’t feel like Burcu genuinely loves this guy. When he shows up at school to pick her up, she does everything short of dance away from him to avoid a kiss on the mouth.

So, what’s the deal? She clearly has feelings for Kemal, but why the devotion to this basic schlub?

An update on the teens

Last time we saw Kerem, Isik, Eda, Sinan, and Osman, they weren’t in a good place, mainly due to Sinan’s fiery outburst. He makes amends this week by apologizing to Osman and Isik.

Slowly, the friends join forces again to fix things between Kemal and Burcu. They know sparks flew between the teachers, but they’re not sure how to get them back on the same page. To make matters worse, they see Burcu greeting her boyfriend.

Isik doesn’t want to take part in the plan anymore if it means trying to split Burcu and her boyfriend up, she feels like it would be too morally wrong.

But then, the teens start to believe that her boyfriend isn’t a good guy, and they’d be doing the noble thing by breaking them up.

To prove it, Sinan goes out into the pouring rain without a jacket to talk to Burcu’s beau about waiting for her. He only offers Sinan his jacket when Burcu is nearby and already offering him an umbrella.

In comparison, when Sinan tries the same experiment on Kemal, he immediately gives Sinan his jacket and even waits for Burcu for ages despite having no proof she would meet him — although I wonder if that decision will backfire on the teens.

Isik agrees that Kemal is far more of a gentleman than the guy Burcu is currently with, even if he is a little rough around the edges.

The teens agree to move forward with their plan to split them up. However, before that can happen, Sinan goes to the hospital for a fever. He’s anemic, and all that time in the rain didn’t help, even if Isik adorably fed him soup for a while.

In one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the series so far, Sinan checks himself into the hospital for treatment but learns he can’t get IV medicine because he doesn’t have a parent to sign his forms. He lies and says his parents are waiting in the parking lot, so he can escape without revealing that fact to the nurse.

But when he gets there, he faints, and the episode ends. This poor kid is killing me. Can someone please hug him?!?
