In episode 209 of Netflix series Lost in Space, a mutiny is afoot, but someone’s complicating Maureen’s plans.  Also, Will’s robot gets rebellious.

Episode 207 of Lost in Space featured at least two mutinies, and Dr. Smith (Parker Posey) proved herself useful once again,  208 kicks off with Maureen (Molly Parker) mid-mutiny, with Smith almost acting as an advisor. She says Maureen should find someone’s weak spot.

However, Smith says it’s best if she stays outside of their actual plan, to help affirm her new identity. Captain Kamal (Sakina Jaffrey) clashes with Maureen over abandoning colonists.

Still, Maureen is determined to save them by gathering ammonium from the nearby gas planet, to decontaminate their water supply. Meanwhile, Penny Robinson (Mina Sundwall) helps break Don West (Ignacio Serricchio), though he still has a metal block attached to him with cuffs.

Also, Will Robinson (Maxwell Jenkins) learns about the mutiny. Also, Angela (Sibongile Mlambo) affirms that they can deoxidize the rust virus with the ammonium, thereby saving the Resolute.

As this occurs, Hastings (Douglas Hodge) and Judy Robinson (Taylor Russell) talk to John (Toby Stephens). Hastings informs John he knows Maureen cheated on Will’s test scores to let him travel. Maureen does enter the gas planet to collect the ammonium.

However, Hastings threatens to use access codes to open the airlock, thereby threatening the crew, because Hastings does not wish to delay the overall space mission.

To this end, Hastings also locks Penny and John inside a room. Although Dr. Smith is told to stop Hastings, she accidentally encounters Samantha (Nevis Unipan), and her mom (Amanda Marier) — family to the security officer (Jon Cor) she killed.

She avoids them apparently due to guilt feelings and thereby doesn’t counteract Hastings’ plan. It somewhat complicates Lost in Space, as June is normally more of a true blue sociopath. Does she feel guilt?

Thwarting Hastings

Although Hastings opens the airlock and endangers the crew, Don uses his metal block to prevent the door from completely sealing them outside. so people can escape. However, Ava (Tattiawna Jones) and Don are still stuck in the airlock portion of the ship. Maureen heads out in a pod to scoop them up, successfully closing the airlock.

When they all return safely inside the Resolute, Captain Kamal defies Hastings, seemingly taking a page from Maureen’s book. While it’s sometimes tough to say when rebellion is absolutely the right thing, both Maureen and Kamal obviously are capable of thinking on their feet.

As the episode winds down, things change with Will and his Robot (Brian Steele). Previously, “Lost in Space” made the robot basically subservient to Will’s will, and bonded with his emotional states. Now, however, the Robot seems to be more independent, acting to rescue the “Scarecrow” robot instead of saving anyone from the airlock danger.

On top of that, the Robot flat-out tells Will “No” when asked to help pilot the Resolute to Alpha Centauri. This is obviously a conundrum for all on board, as they seem to require the robot in order to successfully pilot the ship. It’s an unexpected change, but it seems the Robot always had this potential.
