Episode 306 of Netflix series Castlevania involves an elaborate dream sequence, plus we get to know FlysEyes, one of Isaac’s night creatures.

Previously on Castlevania, Saint Germain (Bill Nighy) told us about the infinite corridor, and Sumi (Rila Fukushima) and Taka (Toru Uchikado) continue their training with Alucard (James Callis) to eventually face a vampire similar to Chō.

Episode 6 begins with Hector the devil forge master (Theo James) receiving some clothes from Lenore (Jessica Brown Findlay). He had previously been nude and underfed, but Lenore and her vampire sisterhood are trying to win him over so he crafts new night creatures to secure their dominion over humans.

Fittingly, Lenore takes him out for a walk almost like a dog, complete with a leash to keep him close by. They discuss everything from the night sky to Carmilla (Jaime Murray). Lenore agrees that she has a temper but maintains that she’s logical.

It’s also been established that Hector is naïve and malleable. Lenore gives him a book on vampire magic and, while doing so, brings her lips close to his. Could this be the start of a genuine romance or is it more about her being manipulative?

Saint Germain’s dream

To tell the truth, not a whole lot happens in this episode of Castlevania.

While that may sound like a critique, it has more to do with how the story focuses on Saint Germain’s dream about the Infinite Corridor. It’s so vivid that it may just be real. In it, he sees monsters and spaceships (and spaceships are presumably not common to the Castlevania universe).

He also receives a crystal from a mysterious woman. However, Saint Germain seems to understand what is happening, despite being flustered upon his awakening. Is this woman the one he wants to find in the actual Infinite Corridor? Then again, was this dream part of the Corridor itself?

Isaac and FlysEyes

This episode focuses very little on Trevor (Richard Armitage) and Sypha (Alejandra Reynoso). In fact, even the night creature known as FlysEyes (Gildart Jackson) seemingly gets more attention. It is rather interesting to see such a character have an actual backstory and possible motives and depth of intellect.

When asked about its past by Isaac (Adetokumboh M’Cormack), FlysEyes vaguely recalls being a scholar in Athens, adding that he was betrayed, hunted and tortured for being a philosopher. He says that he gave up other “sinners” so that he might live but the authorities killed him anyway.

In other words, FlysEyes had a rather unhappy fate. Will he play a greater role in Isaac’s new (albeit vague) campaign? What about The Captain (Lance Reddick)?

This episode still leaves things very open-ended, but we do gain a little insight into what makes certain characters tick, which is often just as important as straightforward action.  Granted, there is most certainly more fighting and bloodshed right around the corner.  The question is, hat form will it take?
