Mike Flanagan and the team behind The Haunting of Bly Manor will adapt Christopher Pike’s novel The Midnight Club for Netflix.

Mike Flanagan is keeping very busy over at Netflix. After the monumental success of The Haunting of Hill House, Flanagan signed an overall deal with the streamer that will soon bring us The Haunting of Bly Manor and now an adaptation of Christopher Pike’s novel The Midnight Club.

Variety exclusively reported the news of The Midnight Club being ordered from Netflix earlier today. Try not to get it confused with The Midnight Mass, which is yet another horror project in the works for Netflix from the Doctor Sleep director.

For those unfamiliar with the 1994 novel, it revolves around a group of terminally ill teenagers housing together at the Rotterdam Home hospice. They begin meeting up for secret midnight meetings to share scary stories. Together, they make a pact that whoever dies first will attempt to contact the remaining club members from the other side.

More from Netflix

According to the article from Variety, some sources claim the Netflix show will incorporate elements from other Pike works.

Flanagan himself confirmed the rumor was accurate on his official Twitter account, saying, “whatever your favorite Pike book is, there’s a chance it’ll be part of the show.”

The visionary director also claims he first started brainstorming an adaptation of Pike’s novel as a teenager, so the television show appears to be a passion project for him.

Flanagan will be joined by Leah Fong, who also serves as a writer on The Haunting of Bly Manor, the highly-anticipated sequel to Hill House. Production on Bly Manor wrapped earlier this year, and the show is expected to debut before 2020 is over. Fong’s other writing credits include The Magicians and Once Upon a Time.
