2. Season 4, Episode 2 – “The Lorelais’ First Day at Yale”

If you and your mom have a close bond and you’ve ever gone to college or moved away from her, then you probably know how hard it can be to go your separate ways. Well, who knows that better than the Gilmore girls?

Rory has a harder time saying good-bye to Lorelai than she anticipated when they get to Yale. After moving her in, Lorelai comes up with an excuse to buy her more stuff and come back, but then when she does leave, Rory doesn’t last long before picking up the phone and begging her mom to come back.

Lorelai ends up staying the night with her, and they order takeout from everywhere in the area to figure out the places to keep Rory and her roommates fed and happy all term. The episode marked a big change for the future of the series as Rory transitioned to life at her new school and living away from her mom for the first time.
