Jen and Michelle take their relationship to the next level in Episode 6 of Dead to Me while Jen tries to smooth things over with Charlies and Parker.

The sixth episode of Dead to Me offers a few new surprising twists to the series that will serve to complicate matters even further between Jen, Judy and the new characters in their lives. The episode begins shortly after the whole car-burning incident.

Jen lays down the law with Charlie, grounding him and even vowing to remove his bedroom door until he can learn how to make good decisions. While she and Judy don’t tell Charlie why driving the car was so bad, Jen pretends her anger stems solely from the fact her son was driving without a license.

Everything is taken care of, it seems, until Jen discovers Parker has uploaded several photographs of herself and Charlie posing by Steve’s car. She even included the license plate in the images. It should be easy to get Parker to take down the photos, right? Not quite.

Parker is a “micro-influencer,” meaning she gets paid for her social media content. If Jen wants her to delete the pictures, she has to hawk over $1,000.

Considering Jen’s money problems, it is a little surprising to see how willingly she drops the cash for Parker, although their back-and-forth bit about checks and Venmo is hilarious.

Once the matter of Steve’s car is settled, Jen meets with Ben to help him find a new short-term rental. They’re interrupted before he can sign the contract when Detective Perez calls to notify Ben the police have discovered remains.

Feeling sorry for Ben, Jen accompanies him to the police station where they learn the remains were female, but it is not clear where the remains were found or why they thought they could potentially be Steve’s. Perez is immediately suspicious upon seeing Jen and Ben together.

Judy also revisits Perez in Episode 6. The detective has evidence that she was the last person Steve contacted on the last night he was seen. Judy plays the aggressive and threatening voicemails Steve left her. Perez wonders if she’s worried about her safety. Judy says no, but it might have been smarter for her to say yes.

Later, Judy and Michelle hang out once again. Michelle takes Judy to visit a local taco stand. Before they can enjoy their Mexican cokes  (which really do taste better) and abundance of food, they run right into Nick, who is less than enthused to see Judy. Michelle picks up on the weird tension between the two of them, Judy reveals their relationship ended badly and tells her about her almost-pregnancy.

Since Judy was forthcoming, Michelle reveals that she is still living with her ex-girlfriend, although she claims they’re more like family now than anything. Red flag?

Eventually, all four adults meet up again to attend Henry’s Holy Harmonies performance, except Henry gets the jitters and decides he doesn’t want to perform his solo. Realizing that she needs to be less harsh on her boys, Jen asks Henry to ignore the “have-tos” so they can do something he genuinely wants to do instead.

As an aside, James Marsden does some excellent comedic work this episode between his excitement over the Holy Harmonies and his crazy dance moves during a game of Dance Dance Revolution. Plus, the line about mocktails is one of the best in the season.

They make a trip to a local arcade for some normal lighthearted fun. Jen gets to meet Michelle and immediately picks up on the romantic vibe between her and Judy, she’s happy for Judy and is clearly beginning to think of Ben romantically, too. But how twisted is it for Jen to potentially have feelings for the identical twin of the dude she killed?

The night at the arcade gives Jen a chance to make amends with Charlie in her own way, and it culminates in a steamy hookup between Judy and Michelle who go back to Michelle’s place, unable to keep their hands off each other. All is well and good until the camera zooms out and we see Michelle’s roommate/ex-girlfriend arrive home.

Guess who? Detective Perez.

Across town, Nick is back on the force, and he stares at the burnt remains of Steve’s car, which is now crawling with cops.
