Swamp Thing: Is The CW planning to revive the DC Universe series?
By Mads Lennon
Season 1 of Swamp Thing is going to air on The CW soon, could that mean there is hope for the series to return in the future as part of Arrowverse?
In some surprising news, The CW might be giving the canceled DC Universe series Swamp Thing another lease on life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Swamp Thing has been picked up by the network, which will air the show soon along with several other recent imports.
The CW will also re-air CBS All Access series Tell Me a Story and has ordered Canadian series Coroner and U.K. comedy Dead Pixels. Now while The CW is planning to air Swamp Thing, that doesn’t necessarily mean the show will be renewed for a second season, but there is hope.
Many fans were hopeful that HBO Max would become the potential new home of Swamp Thing, which was always geared toward being an R-rated horror show about Alec Holland’s origin and evolution into the famous DC hero and villain.

On The CW, the content will have to be toned down. But The CW is already home to multiple DC shows as part of its famous long-running Arrowverse. However, there is also precedent for HBO Max, since fellow DC Universe series Doom Patrol will air its second season simultaneously on both streaming services.
Many predict that DC Universe won’t last much longer as almost every original show has been shopped to another streaming service.
Popular animated series Harley Quinn previously aired a censored version on TBS, and Season 1 recently debuted on Syfy, which has less strict rules in terms of content.
It’s next new series, Stargirl is also going to air simultaneously on DC Universe and The CW.
Another reason The CW has probably imported many of these shows is due to the current pandemic, which has paused television production. Networks are scrambling to figure out how to fill their fall and summer TV schedules. The CW will release its fall 2020 schedule later this week, where we should get to see how all of these shows will fit in.
Swamp Thing will get introduced to a much broader audience on the network, so it will be interesting to see if elevating ratings lead to the show getting another season.
