In Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ “Wicked Old World” things get even more intense for our cast and Magda puts on another character.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels‘ newest episode contains one of the best scenes in the season so far. We also get to go on a date with Tiago and Molly, while Lewis is seen interrogating the CalTech student, Brian Koenig. And, as can be expected, Magda uses her many forms to cause trouble for the residents of Los Angeles. Here are some key takeaway moments from “Wicked Old World.”

Lewis reacts to the loss of friends

“Wicked Old World” treats us to a more emotional side of Detective Lewis Michener. Our opening scene has us entering the morgue, where Lewis is shown the corpses of his friends. At first glance, it appears that the cause of death was simply burning in a car crash, but the mortician shows that their skulls were actually riddled with bullets. Before exiting the morgue to have a breakdown in the hall, Lewis tells the coroner to pretend he never saw anything.

This leads to Detective Michener taking matters into his own hands. When he meets up with Brian Koenig, the explosives-making CalTech student and an affiliate of Richard Goss, he informs him that his captain would like to see him down at the station.

Of course, we know that Michener will not be heading back to the department. Instead, he drives Koenig out to a deserted highway, where he pistol-whips and forces him out of the car. He then informs him that he’s been watching him ever since his dinner date with Goss. Finally, after threatening the student that he’ll throw him off the cliff, Koenig asks Michener if he’s ever heard of a man named Wernher von Braun.
