Starz renews the Step Up series for a reimagined Season 3.
Starz has ordered a new season of the Step Up series that originally premiered on YouTube. As a Starz Original series, the show will focus on a new story with a much broader storytelling scope, although characters from previous seasons will return.
The new season of the Step Up series will consist of ten episodes.
In the press release from Starz, Christina Davis, the President of Original Programming, said she was impressed by the compelling story and felt that the creator, Holly Sorenson, had done an exceptional job at elevating the material.
“This, coupled with the worldwide appeal of the multi-talented, multicultural cast, will make this series a great addition to our slate,” said Davis.

Reportedly the new installment will retain many of the elements people love most about the franchise, including the excellent choreography and creative appeal.
The original Step Up franchise from Lionsgate went on to gross over $600 million at the worldwide box office. It spawned numerous films and copycats, inspiring a trend of dance movies and reality shows.
The series centers on Sage Odom (Ne-Yo) the founder of Atlanta’s High Water Performing Arts School. Naya Rivera also stars as his partner, Collette. Both actors will return for the new season in which they are facing political enemies and criminal charges that are attempting to take down both Sage and the High Water school.
Tricia Helfer is joining the season as a woman named Erin. Additional returning series regulars include Faizon Love, Petrice Jones, Jade Chynoweth, Terrence Green, Kendra Oyesanya, and Marcus Mitchell.
As TVLine reports, the series originally aired on YouTube’s premium service YouTube Premium, but was canceled after only two seasons when the subscription service decided to favor unscripted material over its scripted series.
You can still watch the first two seasons on YouTube as part of the YouTube Originals slate. It is not yet clear when the Step Up series will return on Starz for season three. I’m guessing the premium cable service will eventually get the rights to the first two seasons to air them together or have them available to stream on their app.
