Central Park Episode 3 recap: The hat luncheon

In Central Park Episode 3, everyone is excited for the annual Hat Luncheon while Owen must prepare for his upcoming speech presenting the prestigious golden rake award to a long-time park employee.

The only problem is, Owen is terrible at speeches and extremely nervous to give it because his last few speeches have not gone according to plan.

Birdie introduces to the episode, as is custom, with the song “Birdie Busking,” as he discusses why the Hat Luncheon is so important. It includes a huge gathering of park officials and other important people in the area.

More from Apple TV Plus

After we discovered that Central Park could cease to have funding in the last episode, it becomes apparent that the luncheon could be the perfect moment for Paige to get a quote about why Leo Shallenhammer voted against continued funding of the park.

Unfortunately, that also means that Bitsy will be in attendance at the luncheon, despite hating everything about it and basically everyone in attendance.

She wreaks havoc by whispering in all of the socialites and politicians’ ears until they turn against each other and start fighting, running the entire event during a rousing song called “The Park is Mine.”

The good news is that Paige manages to coax the mayor into giving her a quote about why he told Leo to vote against the funding. According to the mayor, he thinks they can do better.

interview Leo. Paige tries to confront him in his natural habitat at the spa in the hopes it might make him more comfortable, although he sees right through her. He does admit it was the mayor who told him to vote against funding.

Owen also sings “Don’t Think About Failures” when trying to prepare for his speech, although it winds up being successful since everyone was exhausted from fighting each other.

There is another subplot involving Molly and Brendan. The two, along with Cole, eat some of the fantastic ice cream at the luncheon, and Molly wonders if it could be considered a date. She kisses Brendan at the end of it, only to discover that he is deathly allergic to peanuts and she’d just eaten peanut parfait ice cream. Brendan is forced to use his EpiPen and waddles off while coping with the swelling.

We also find out that Bitsy is Brendan’s aunt.
