The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 will not premiere until 2021

Unfortunately for fans of the critically-acclaimed Hulu series, The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 will not debut until next year. According to The Wrap, Hulu announced the postponement on Monday during a newfront presentation held for advertisers.

Considering production on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 was only getting started when the coronavirus pandemic struck, it makes sense that the streaming service would opt to delay the season until it can be finished.

Initially, the new season was scheduled to release during the fall of 2020, but given the current production shutdowns and ongoing public health crisis, that won’t be possible.

More from Hulu

A source informed the outlet that a “narrower premiere window” would be revealed after filming starts back up again.

The Handmaid’s Tale has been extremely successful for Hulu. Last year, it was renewed for a fourth season before the season three finale even aired. Its third season was not eligible for last year’s Emmy Awards but should be competing this year.

Aside from Elisabeth Moss, the series also stars Alexis Bledel, Samira Wiley, Yvonne Strahovski, Joseph Fiennes, and more.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 is not the only delayed Hulu series

Not only is the next season of the Moss starrer delayed, but Hulu’s highly-anticipated new shows Nine Perfect Strangers and The Dropout have also been pushed back to 2021.

Nine Perfect Strangers is based on the Liane Moriarty book of the same name and will star Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy, while Kate McKinnon is the lead in The Dropout. It is not clear when next year these two series will debut.
