By Louis Skye
Never Have I Ever, the YA comedy from Netflix is set to return.
Prepare yourself for more high school hijinks and internal monologues from tennis legends—Netflix comedy Never Have I Ever has been renewed for a second season, TVLine reports.
The cast of the show announced the news in a hilarious social media video posted on the official Never Have I Ever channels which was also shared by co-creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher.
No details are available as yet about when the show will start filming the second season—current quarantine measures are still in effect and will impact when filming can resume.
Never Have I Ever: What Could Season 2 Be About?
Season 1 of Never Have I Ever followed young Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) as she navigated high school and her tense relationship with her mother, Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan), following the unexpected death of her father, Mohan (Sendhil Ramamurthy).

Alongside Devi’s story, viewers also met her best friends, Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez), and Eleanor (Ramona Young), both also struggling with their identities, acceptance from the world and from their families.
The first season of Never Have I Ever ended with Devi saying goodbye to her father and getting together with her nemesis Ben (Jaren Lewison) instead of her crush Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet).
We also saw Fabiola come out to her parents and find a girlfriend, while Eleanor realised that she deserved to follow her dreams even if her mother couldn’t.
We can assume that the second season will follow a love triangle between Devi, Ben, and Paxton, with them having to navigate around Nalini’s strict rules for her daughter. Hopefully we will see Fabiola become more comfortable with her identity, and for some resolution between Eleanor and her mother.
While Never Have I Ever topped Netflix viewing charts globally and was largely praised for its diversity and excellent writing, there were some issues raised about the show’s ableism, fatphobia, and that certain dialogues heavily hinted at Islamophobia and anti-Semitism.
For the second season to be a resounding success, the show’s creators will have to listen to these criticisms and make course corrections.
For many viewers, Never Have I Ever was a refreshing look at the Indian-American experience, and despite its sometimes heavy subject matter, was humorous and relatable to everyone watching.
