Stateless Season 1 Finale Recap: The Seventh Circle

Stateless Season 1: How will it end?

In the previous episode of the Netflix Original Stateless, Ameer and Sofie’s fate hangs in the balance while Clare and Cam are trying to cope with working at the immigration camp.

We start with Cam living at Cam’s sister’s house since he was kicked out of his own. She wants to know why he is there, but he won’t tell her and goes off to work.

At the same time, Clare wakes up with her neighbor in her apartment. Clare is getting ready for work. He asks her to take the day off and she seems reluctant to do that.

Ameer wakes up in his room and Sofie is waiting in hers. She is hallucinating about Pat being in her room and begins to dance.

Margot is going through some documents. Is she going to try to take down GOPA on her own? Or is she chasing a lead on her sister’s location?

Cam’s wife, Angie, is texting Cam that she is worried about him, but he doesn’t answer. Also, what do you know, Harriet has stepped up to take Brian’s job, which can’t be good. Although she does promote Cam to take her position.

Sofie walks outside to the other men and tells them to start rehearsing with her. They look confused and she tells them that they are doing a good job.

Javad tells her that she needs to keep it together. He goes to tell a guard that Sofie needs help, but he ignores him.

Margot is now at the state police following the lead Sofie’s friend gave her. She gets the state police to tell her that “Eva” is still at the immigration camp.

Clare is talking to Harriet who tells her the previous person in charge had an affair with one of the citizens in the camp. Harriet then tells Cam to put the swings back up to make it look nice for their inspection which is happening in a few hours.

Clare keeps seeing Mina and walks over to her. Harriet informs her that Ameer is in isolation from attacking Mosi. Clare then brings Ameer in and shows him the video footage.

Fiona and Clare ask him more questions and tell him that he can be charged as a people smuggler. Ameer starts to tell them the true story. He tells them how he got his family on the boat but the people caught him before he could get on. They want to know if anyone could corroborate the story.

He says that no one can do it. He also does not want to go back to Afghanistan. Ameer goes back to his daughter. She wants to know why he attacked Mosi. He tells her that he was wrong for doing it.

Ameer finds that Mina has been cutting herself. He gets the nurse to help, but Ameer knows she needs more help than that.

Genevieve wants Ameer’s name to be on the front page of the news. Clare is defending Ameer, as she should. Clare sees Mina going into a room. Mina has been put on a suicide watch.

Fiona then tells Clare that Mina will not be allowed to enter the country unless the department drops the charges on her father. Again, this is not sitting well with Clare.

Clare confides more in her neighbor and he says the only way to stop it, is to expose them from the inside.

Ameer tries to apologize Mosi. He asks Mosi to verify the story and not say that he was involved. Mosi does not want to do it.

Ameer goes back to Clare and tells her that Mina is not his daughter and makes up a story to get Mina a better life.

Margot is now on the phone with people from immigration, but they won’t release any of the information to her. Margot then says that she is going to fax him a picture of her sister and he can check it against Eva. He agrees to this.

Sofie is still in a break from reality. She goes into the courtyard and still believes that she has a show to do.

Cam finally breaks when confronting one of the men. He ends up grabbing Javad and brings him to the spot with no cameras. Cam ends up breaking down right next to Javad. At this moment, they know they are both stuck in the same place.

Margot is on her way to the immigration camp to see if they have her sister.

Clare walks into the interview room with Ameer. Clare has gotten Mina a protection visa. Ameer goes to Mina. Mina tells him how she blames herself for losing her little sister.

Ameer tells her that she has gotten her visa and that she will leave. Mina doesn’t like that she has to leave her father, but he forces her.

Stateless Season 1: Will Sofie be identified? 

Meanwhile, the man Margot sent the fax to sees Sofie’s picture and sends a fax to immigration. Clare receives it and goes through her files to Eva. Clare goes running into the compound.

Genevieve is beyond angry that there can be an Australian citizen in the compound. Clare knows that Sofie is there and is terrified of everything that is going on. Clare calls her neighbor that is standing by the gates. She says that she has a story to tell him. She is going to blow the roof off of the immigration camp.

Sofie is still dancing in the middle of the courtyard like she is performing for Pat. Clare finally confronts Sofie and asks her to leave. The other women try to tell her it’s alright to leave. She panics and they have to sedate her.

Cam finally calls Angie. He apologizes to her and she asks if he is ok and he says no. Cam continues to cry on the other end of the phone, and then he hangs up.

Margot is at the gate and they won’t let her in, but she gets a phone call saying that her sister is going to a hospital. Margot then leaves to find her.

Cam leaves the compound and his sister runs after him. He just keeps walking.

The commissioners finally arrive and Clare goes to meet them. She starts to tell them how well the detention center is working when her neighbor asks Clare about Sofie. Their plan worked and Clare tells them all about Sofie.

Ameer is giving Mina a book before she leaves. Everyone watches as they are separated. This even pulls at Harriet’s heartstrings. Ameer is put in with all of the single men and he is greeted by his friends.

Margot finally gets to the hospital. Sofie is there. Margot is relieved but Sofie isn’t responding.

Ameer is now on the other side of the fence. Everyone knows what he did for Mina and respects him for it. All Ameer has is a picture of his family. Then we see Mina. She is on the beach with another family. She puts her toes in the ocean and that is how the season ends.

At the end of this episode, we are told that these stories are based on true events and how these cases affected the immigration system in Australia.

We can only hope that this series will continue to start conversations worldwide about immigration.
