2. Elle Fanning as Julie 20th Century Women

20th Century Women was nominated for multiple awards upon its release and yet the movie is still pretty underrated in the film community. It’s a really moving, heartfelt, and touching story of a single mother trying to raise her teenage son by instilling meaningful values about women and life.

To do so, she enlists the assistance of two other women, Abbie, a free spirit who lives at the boarding house with the family, and Julie, Elle’s character, a clever and sly neighbor who becomes involved with Jamie. Aside from Elle, the cast also includes Greta Gerwig, Annette Bening, Billy Crudup, and Lucas Jade Zumann.

1. Elle Fanning as Catherine in The Great

Obviously we had to include The Great on here as it’s the primary reason for writing this piece! If you have not gotten the chance to watch The Great on Hulu yet, I strongly recommend it. Not only is Elle exceptional and hilarious, but the entire cast is. Plus, the show was renewed for a second season!

It’s easy to binge and delightful to watch, just don’t anticipate legitimate accuracy in the retelling of Catherine the Great’s story, that’s not what the show is about. If you loved the zaniness of the 2018 period black comedy The Favourite, you’ll love the genre-bending The Great, which is from the same writer.
