6. Emmys 2020: The Great

The Great is a spectacular new series starring Nicholas Hoult and Elle Fanning. It is a comedic and loosely historical retelling of Catherine the Great’s rise to becoming one of Russia’s greatest rulers. It’s hard to pick just one person to say deserves an Emmy for the show, both stars do, but so does the writing team and definitely the costumes department!

It’s actually possible that Catherine the Great could secure two nominations since both Fanning and Helen Mirren portrayed her in two gorgeous, beautifully-filmed series, although they are vastly different in tone. It would be interesting to see Fanning get a comedic nod for her work while Mirren gets a dramatic one.

5. Emmys 2020: Dear White People

Dear White People made a big splash when it first debuted but has somewhat fallen off the radar during its last two seasons. The show has had some truly moving and groundbreaking moments as well as becoming a great way to start important conversations about race. It’s a real shame that Logan Browning has not received accolades for her work.

Plus, the third season of the show was one of the strongest of the bunch and it deserves some attention. Now seems like a great time to get a timely series like Dear White People back into the conversation.
