Lando Calrissian rumor: Donald Glover set to return?
By Louis Skye
Lando Calrissian could be showing up on TV screens soon.
The Star Wars universe may be on hold at the moment but that doesn’t stop the rumour mills from churning. The latest rumour from the galaxy far, far away? Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian could be appearing in a future Star Wars TV series, reports Empire Online.
The Kessel Run Radio podcast broke the news and shared the snippet later via Twitter:
According to the information the podcast received, Disney Plus could be developing a Lando Calrissian solo series—in the same vein as the confirmed Cassian Andor series.
The rumor follows close on the heels of reports that Hayden Christensen has signed a contract to appear as Anakin Skywalker in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series for Disney Plus.
The Anakin Skywalker rumor has yet to be confirmed, and the same goes for the Lando Calrissian series.
Lando Calrissian Series: What Could It Be About?
Since the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, fans have been asking for a solo series for Lando Calrissian.
The smuggler turned administrator—first portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy—appeared in a reduced role in the Solo film, which followed Han Solo in his younger days.
Though many fans were excited at Glover’s casting for the film—and were pleased with his performance—Glover wasn’t given as much to do as had been promised.
Solo was also critically and commercially panned—leading to the solo Obi-Wan Kenobi film being scrapped before Disney shifted its focus to television.
There are several directions a Lando Calrissian series could go. The show could follow his eventual rise to become an administrator on Cloud City. Calrissian’s various smuggling exploits could make for an exciting adventure series, as well. The show could also take place before Solo, and follow Calrissian and L3’s partnership and exploits.
If a show about Calrissian were to be made, one hopes that it would lean into his pansexuality, which was confirmed by Disney but never made explicit on-screen.
Considering how little Disney has confirmed thus far, these rumours about fan-favourite characters returning to our screens should be taken with a pinch of salt. Were the rumours to be verified though, fans would be overjoyed at the prospect of seeing more of Lando Calrissian.
