P-Valley: Will the hit Starz series return for another season?

Spend more time at The Pynk in P-Valley Season 2.

It is official, Starz’s hit summer series will return for another batch of incredible episodes. P-Valley Season 2 is happening, as confirmed by a new press release issued by the premium cable channel.

Considering the show set a new record on the Starz app for the most-viewed series premiere, escalating more than 17% from the previous record-holder,  the renewal decision doesn’t come as much of a surprise, but it sure is nice to have the confirmation.

Even better, the ratings have flourished from the series premiere to its recent third episode and the show is currently rated as the number one new premium show among African American viewers.

With all the critical acclaim and audience buzz, Starz giving the green light to P-Valley Season 2 just seems like the natural move. The network has changed its focus in recent years to amplify diverse voices and spotlight stories about women, both in front of and behind the camera.

Christina Davis, the current president of original programming at Starz says she’s confident creator Katori Hall has more “incredible stories to tell” in P-Valley Season 2.

When will P-Valley Season 2 debut?

Since Season 1 started in July of this year, we can assume P-Valley will try to retain its presence in the summer months. I’d like to see the show keep airing around the same time, as I think it makes for a great summer series.

However, the ongoing pandemic could disrupt that plan depending on when the cast and crew are able to get back into production. I imagine given the very nature of the show (sex scenes, nudity, etc.) they’re going to have to be extra cautious with restrictions and testing.

Many television shows are resuming filming already, so it is possible P-Valley could stay on track. Summer 2021 is a while away and if they don’t start filming until the spring, we might still get to see Season 2 air in July of next year, perhaps August at the latest. It’s hard to give a concrete prediction yet.
