The Umbrella Academy Season 3

4. The Umbrella Academy Season 3 questions: What is Reginald? What is he doing on the dark side of the moon?

One of the biggest shocks (for non-comic readers, I gather) of the entire second season of The Umbrella Academy was the reveal that Reginald is NOT HUMAN. What he is exactly, we don’t know yet. I’m assuming an alien species of some sort, which is why he’s so fascinated by the moon.

We don’t really get a good look at him, but I appreciated that creative decision. The brief glimpse of Reginald’s monstrous head and then the close-up on his skin suit while he eviscerated the Majestic 12 was far more disturbing.

Collider dived into some of the new mythos surrounding Reginald and his moon escapades. A key statement made by the Smoking Man in the Majestic 12 (btw, that has to be an X-Files reference, right?) has lots to unpack, in particular.

“The rocket technology you supplied us with will enable us to beat the Russians to the moon. And in turn, when we do arrive, five or six years from now, your interests on the dark side of the moon won’t be affected.”

Not only does that quote address time travel, but it brings up the moon stuff, again. We know that Reginald claims Luther’s entire time on the moon, the fabled “moon mission,” was nothing more than a ploy to make him feel important — or so he says, but I find that hard to believe.

It seems like such a waste of resources just to make his son hate him. I think there is more to the moon story than we’re being told thus far, there are far too many hints to ignore and let it be dropped.

Hopefully, in Season 3, we’ll start learning a lot more about what really happened on the moon, and perhaps some of those answers might even come from Luther, rather than Reginald.

3. The Umbrella Academy Season 3 questions: Will there be another apocalypse?

It was reiterated several times in the third season that there would “always” be an apocalypse and that Vanya would “always” be the cause of it.

While I don’t think it would make much sense for each season to rehash the same overall plot of having the Hargreeves trying to avert an impending apocalypse, I do wonder if there could be a looming threat of one again if they’re not careful.

Perhaps the new timeline will bring about an apocalypse yet again, just at a later date that they cannot predict.
