Amazon Prime’s Utopia: Trailer, plot, release date, and more
By Mads Lennon
A new trailer for Utopia has been released.
Since it was announced that Amazon Prime would be adapting the popular British series Utopia with Gillian Flynn writing the show, I’ve been eagerly awaiting more news on the show.
Finally, we’ve received a brand new trailer for the show’s upcoming first season! What’s most exciting for me is that my all-time favorite writer, Flynn, is behind the creation of the show. I know it has a lot to live up to considering how beloved the original is, but I look forward to seeing what she brings to the table.
For those unfamiliar, Flynn is behind mega-hits like Gone Girl and Sharp Objects. Utopia is her latest project.
What is Utopia about, and when will it release?
If you have not seen the British show, you might be wondering what the new series is all about, and it’s a little difficult to explain. The black comedy thriller revolves around a community of comic book fans who are devoted to a graphic novel called The Utopia Experiments, at least in the U.K. series.
It’s a little hard to judge what will be kept the same in the new version. Although, we do know that the American version has toned down the violence a little, according to a report from Flynn herself.
The tagline for the series from Amazon is: “When the conspiracy in the elusive comic Utopia is real, a group of young fans come together to embark on a high-stakes twisted adventure to use what they uncover to save themselves, each other, and ultimately humanity.”
Starring John Cusack, Rainn Wilson, Dan Byrd, Jessica Rothe, Sasha Lane, Cory Michael Smith, Christopher Denham, Desmin Borges, and Javon Walton, it seems like Utopia is destined for greatness.
The new trailer gives us a little more background on the tone and plot of the upcoming adaptation. It appears that it will focus on a potential new virus predicted by the novel and ultimately creates a new deadly flu pandemic.
Of course, that might be a little too real for some of us right now but the series was obviously created before the coronavirus struck the world.
While I am truly looking forward to the show, it’s a bummer that David Fincher wound up not being involved with the project. I would have liked to see him and Flynn reunite.
