The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 4: “Silence the Whisperers”

If there is one common theme this season for Negan it was that he could not catch a break. This episode was just the beginning of his troubles, even if they were unintentional.

Lydia’s attempts to follow Negan’s advice to handle the constant bullying unraveled at her feet as she was surrounded and beaten by the surviving Highwaymen. All alone with no one in sight, Lydia’s tormentors took their cruelty to another level.

While what started as a cruel prank to scare her almost became her death if it weren’t for Negan’s rescue. Without thinking about anything except Lydia, he pulled and tossed them off of her accidentality killing Margo just as people arrive to notice what he had done.

As Lydia wept Negan hovered over her noticing his act and realizing at that moment that his fate may have been sealed.

We haven’t seen Negan come to someone’s rescue in some time and Jeffrey was able to transform into that Savior once again. His selflessness coming to Lydia’s rescue regardless of the repercussions that would follow was nothing short of heroic and indeed whom Negan is at his core.

He may not be perfect but he follows through with his promises. Jeffrey’s portrayal of a very protective Negan will not go unnoticed.

Even if fans dislike his character.

What makes this scene all the more powerful is Lydia’s tearful pleas that Negan remain unharmed. Even in her state, she worried more about his life than her own.

Something Daryl notices and is far from happy about.
