The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 12: “Walk With Us”

Throughout the show, audiences had only caught small glimpses into Negan’s past. It was in those moments that yet another side of Negan was revealed.

He had proven to be a complex man, but hardly let his past show more than he felt he needed to.

In “Walk With Us” audiences got that glimpse again while Negan lead Alpha to her supposedly captured daughter. Having no need to distrust him, as they had indeed gotten close, Alpha took the lead.

This is a stark contrast of the last time the two of them were walking alone and away from The Whisperers. Negan uses this opportunity to try to change Alpha’s mind about killing her own daughter.

In a last ditch effort, he tells her about his dead wife who died from pancreatic cancer. Holding back tears he goes as far as to detail how beautiful his wife looked as she was dying.

Alpha sees it as death setting her free. Negan continues explaining that he didn’t feel anything after she passed.

He considers that his strength.

He knows that Alpha is pretending to be strong. He knows that she is very emotional.

Even though Alpha is truly sad by his story she couldn’t change her mind.

Her inability to change ultimately led to Negan’s final decision to kill her. The moment Alpha discovers that her daughter was not in the shed Negan slits her throat without hesitation.

Let’s admit it, that emotional scene brought tears to your eyes. Jeffrey’s ability to turn a scene on its head, with his most detailed story about his past was incredible.

Jeffrey reminds us at this moment that Negan is more than just what is perceived. There is always more to him.
