4. Shows like Yellowstone: Hell on Wheels

Hell On Wheels is another Western that ran on AMC for five seasons. It followed former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon (Anson Mount), who is unable to put the horrors of war behind him, especially after his wife was brutally killed by enemy soldiers, which sets Cullen on a path for vengeance.

The name of the show stems from a town that carries that moniker, as it’s known for following along with the construction of the first transcontinental railroad. Hell On Wheels received numerous accolades over the years and won many of them. It’s a lesser-known show but a riveting one nonetheless.

Hell On Wheels is available to stream on Netflix.

3. Shows like Yellowstone: Deadwood

Another western, Deadwood is a three-season series set in the town of, well, Deadwood, a mining community unattached to any U.S. state or territory post-Civil War. Because of its unorthodox nature, Deadwood was a lawless town, which attracted many people trying to get rich quick and organize schemes to capitalize on the lack of any concrete laws in the area.

The HBO series attracted a very loyal and devoted fanbase over the years, many of whom were devastated by its cancellation. Deadwood has consistently ranked high on lists of series “canceled too soon” and the like. Ultimately, fans helped pave the way for a Deadwood movie, which premiered in 2019 and was set ten years after the third season.

Deadwood is available to stream on HBO Go, HBO Max, and HBO Now.
