2. Shows like P-Valley: Pose
Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, Pose is a drama and dance musical exploring several elements of society in 1980s New York: ball culture, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, and the social scene. Blanca (Mj Rodriguez) runs a “house” full of carefully selected family members to support young LGBTQ members who have been rejected by their biological families.
Together, the house competes in balls and rebel against Blanca’s former house mother Elektra Wintour (Dominique Jackson). The series is critically-acclaimed and has won numerous awards, including Golden Globes and Primetime Emmys.
It stars several notable actors like Billy Porter, James Van der Beek, and several Murphy alums like Evan Peters and Kate Mara. Pose is streaming on Netflix and will return for a third season.
1. Shows like P-Valley: Harlots
Tonally, Harlots is probably the most similar to P-Valley. It’s a period drama set in 1763 London that primarily revolves around women and their opportunities for advancement. The focus is on the city’s dueling brothels, which are run by cunning businesswomen Margaret Wells and Lydia Quigley.
But when evangelists start flooding the city, they decide to do whatever it takes to close down the brothels, even by launching raids on the businesses. Despite critical acclaim, Harlots was canceled after three seasons by Hulu, but is still available to stream and ends well without too many major cliffhangers.
