Lost in Space is a sci-fi television show and a reimagining of the 1965 series of the same name. There are currently two seasons available to stream with a third and final season scheduled for a 2021 release.

Following the aftermath of an impact event that sets humanity on the brink of extinction, the Robinson family becomes part of the Resolute, the 24th colonist group to travel to the Alpha Centauri star system in hopes of colonizing it for future human life.

But before the Robinsons reach their destination, a robot gets inside the ship’s hull, causing them to crash on a random habitable planet where they must face an unknown environment while trying to find a way back on course.

3. Shows like Away: The First

Before Netflix created Away, Hulu made a television show with an identical premise called The First. Sean Penn starred in the short-lived drama series following the first group of humans trying to make it to Mars. Like Away, the series focused on the many challenges faced by the astronauts planning to travel to Mars, along with the relationships between their loved ones and the ground team on Earth.

However, the main difference between the two shows is that The First doesn’t see the astronauts launch into space until the final episode of the season. Everything up until that point is preparation for the mission. As a result, the series was declared “slow-moving,” by many, despite getting relatively good reviews from critics.

That, paired with its failure to attract a large audience and its colossal budget, resulted in Hulu canceling the show after only one season. Still, if you enjoyed the exploration of relationships and family dynamics in Away, then The First might be up your alley. It’s only eight episodes, and it is a visually stunning series.
