6. Best fall TV shows: Salem
Salem is such an underrated series, in my opinion, that I can’t help talking about it whenever I get the chance. Salem was a dream come true for someone like me, who has always loved witches, particularly dark take on witchcraft in horror. The three-season WGN show was one of the darkest and most twisted series I ever saw on regular television.
It’s full of grisly spells, and disturbing plot lines as witches vie for power in the puritanical town of Salem. Janet Montgomery stars as the legendary Mary Sibley who controls the local coven, and this alternate historical telling dives into what “really” caused the infamous witch trials of 17th century Massachusetts.
Salem is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
5. Best fall TV shows: The Vampire Diaries
Based on the book series of the same name by L.J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries ran for eight seasons and spawned two spin-off series on The CW. Nina Dobrev starred as doppelganger Elena Gilbert who lives in the small town of Mystic Falls where “nothing ever happens.” She falls in love with two centuries-old vampires and brothers, the Salvatores — Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley).
Throughout the series, Elena and her friends must battle against a host of supernatural creatures varying from murderous vampires to angry werewolves as the Salvatore brother’s return upends their small, safe town. If you really enjoy TVD, you can watch the spin-offs The Originals and Legacies, also streaming on Netflix.
The Vampire Diaries is streaming on Netflix.
