4. Shows like Utopia: The Capture

The Capture is a British conspiracy theory like the original Utopia. A former special forces agent, Lance Corporal Shaun Emery, finds himself accused of a terrible crime against his barrister. Unfortunately for Shaun, the allegations become increasingly credible thanks to some damning CCTV footage.

It doesn’t help that before the recent accusations, Shaun was accused of committing a war crime in Afghanistan and was only recently acquitted of the charges. As Emery tries to prove his innocence, Detective Rachel Carey starts to pull at a thread connected to a complicated conspiracy, and Emery might be the star.

Initially airing on BBC One, The Capture recently made its American debut on NBCUniversal’s new streaming service Peacock TV. The Capture received rave reviews when it first aired, and American audiences seem to enjoy it, as well.

The Capture is streaming on Peacock TV.

3. Shows like Utopia: Mr. Robot

Mr. Robot and Utopia have been compared favorably before, mainly because they’re a little like the yin and yang of each other. On the one hand, you have Utopia, which heavily focuses on the evil Network/Harvest trying to orchestrate a deadly plan and seeing the details of how that plan functions.

Then you have Mr. Robot, which focuses more on the hacktivist side of things, lending credence to its classification as a techno-thriller. Even in color palettes and cinematography, the series complement each other. Utopia is full of vibrant colors and graphic novel-tier violence, while shades of gray, blue and black douse the world of Mr. Robot. Both shows enjoy taking risks with filmmaking, content and cinematography.

If you haven’t had the chance to watch Mr. Robot yet, I highly recommend the series. The first season starts with a cybersecurity engineer named Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) who struggles with clinical depression, anxiety and seems influenced by delusions. He acts as a cyber-vigilante when not at work, hacking people and learning their darkest secrets.

He becomes a recruit of the anarchist known as Mr. Robot and his team called fsociety. They plan to take down the massive corporation known as E. Corp and erase all consumer debt. It just so happens that E. Corp is a major client of the company Elliot works for, Allsafe.

All four seasons of Mr. Robot are streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
