Emily in Paris recap: Episode 6, ‘Ringarde’
By Mads Lennon
In Emily in Paris Episode 6, Emily gets dubbed a “ringarde” over a basic mistake and then finds comfort in the company of a seemingly charming professor.
The Savoir team get an opportunity to meet with famed couture designer Pierre Cadault (Jean-Christophe Bouvet) at his iconic couture house in Emily in Paris Episode 6. Unfortunately, things go awry when Pierre notices a tacky Eiffel Tower charm dangling from Emily’s bag and dubs her a “ringarde,” which roughly translates to “a basic b***h.”
Pierre’s comments make Emily a pariah to the team and Sylvie removes her from the Fourtier (a watch brand) marketing team, not wanting to taint the job with her basic-ness. Considering Sylvie made such a huge deal about the importance of the meeting, including making Emily wear black so she could blend in and not stand out, why not just leave Emily out of the meeting altogether?

To take the edge off of her rough day, Emily takes comfort in a glass of wine at a cafe. There she cozies up to a handsome professor named Thomas (Julien Floreancig) and they enjoy playing a game of, “Is that couple over there a couple or mother/son?”
Emily finally gets some of that sweet French loving, which Camille overhears from Gabriel’s apartment.
It’s like some revenge sex between the neighboring apartments as Emily has heard Camille and Gabriel making love for the past several nights. Camille is totally supportive of Emily experiencing a few “petit morts” and invites the new couple alongside her and Gabriel for a double date.
It’s as awkward as you might expect, though perhaps not for the reasons you might expect. Yes, Gabriel shows some jealousy but the real problem is Thomas. He’s a complete snob. Gabriel notices it right away and tries to warn Emily that she deserves better than that guy.
Emily figures that out for herself when she invites him to attend a ballet with her the following night so she can try and seek out Pierre and mend things from their last encounter. Initially, Thomas is all gung-ho for the ballet, until he finds out they’re there to see Swan Lake, a ballet he feels is for tourists. he sticks his nose up at the event and offers to just meet with Emily after for sex. It’s a total turn-off and she gives him the boot.
Inside, she tracks Pierre down to his VIP box and gives him a spiel about how he needs basic girls like her to make his brand fashionable. Then they gush about their mutual love of Gossip Girl and how terrible it was to find out Dan was behind it all along. Surprisingly, all of this somehow manages to impress Pierre and he personally requests Emily work with him on his next marketing campaign.
