When will His Dark Materials Season 2 premiere on HBO?

Fans will soon get a chance to return to Cittagazze when His Dark Materials Season 2 on Nov. 16 at 9/8c. The official His Dark Materials Twitter account tweeted the news yesterday.

Per TVLine, the show’s second season will pull from the second book in Philip Pullman’s trilogy, The Subtle Knife.

When we last left off with the series, Lyra (Dafne Keen) had followed Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) into a fantastical new world. We also met a young boy, Will (Amir Wilson), who traveled into the alternate realm.

Will will play an integral role in the sophomore season as he and Lyra explore the strange town of Cittagazze. As Lyra journeys through the region, she’ll be followed by several of the characters we’ve already met, some hoping to be allies, and others who are potentially dangerous enemies.

His Dark Materials Season 2: New cast additions

In addition to the returning Season 1 cast members, Season 2 will include several new faces. Terence Stampo (Superman) will play Giacomo Paradisi, Jade Anouka (The Rhythm Section) has been cast as Ruta Skadi, Simone Kirby (Peaky Blinders) is Dr. Mary Malone, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), who will provide the voice of the John Parry’s (Andrew Scott) daemon.

According to Deadline, the writers are also in the early stages of preparing scripts for a potential third season. It hasn’t officially been ordered yet, but it sounds like production is optimistic about the show’s future.

Earlier this year, HBO’s Chief of Programming Casey Bloys said the series did exceptionally well in the ratings during the first season, so the cabler is also hopeful that it will run for several more seasons. I’m sure book fans would like to get a complete adaptation of Pullman’s books.
