NEXT Episode 2 will release tonight, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. ET on FOX. The new tech thriller consists of ten episodes in its first season, with a new episode dropping every Tuesday night at the same time. The second episode of the John Slattery-fronted series is called “File #2.”
The premiere episode of NEXT introduced us to the key players of the season. Slattery stars as Paul LeBlanc, an Elon Musk-type who realizes that his old creation, a super-intelligent A.I., is running amuck. He requests the assistance of FBI Agent Shea Salazar after her close friend Dr. Weiss is killed by the A.I.
Together, they return to Paul’s old place of business, Zava, which his brother now runs. The Zava employees claim it would be impossible for the A.I. named NEXT to escape because it doesn’t have internet access. Little do they know, one employee fell prey to NEXT, who blackmailed him with gambling debts to get a forbidden upgrade. He hid a router in the server boxes, giving NEXT the freedom to explore the worldwide web.
We also learn that Paul is suffering from a fatal illness that leaves him with only months left to live, while Shea’s son starts speaking to his Iliza (the show’s version of an Amazon Alexa) who appears to be controlled by NEXT.

What will happen in NEXT Episode 2?
Zava employees mishandle the A.I. called NEXT and it manages to escape the servers after getting access to an internet router. Ethan admits to his parents that Iliza has been trying to help him take revenge on his bullies. Realizing that her son could be in serious danger, Shea asks Paul and her co-workers for assistance. They team-up and try to use Iliza to track NEXT and figure out its next move.

"After being mishandled by a Zava employee, the A.I. called NEXT escapes the confined servers of its home company and gains internet access. When Ethan’s bullying intensifies, he reveals that Iliza has been persuading him to seek revenge. Concerned about her son, Shea recruits Paul and her co-workers C.M., Gina and Ben to help use Ethan’s connection with Iliza to track NEXT’s possible location."
