Bridgerton Season 1 first look: Everything we know about the Shonda Rhimes Netflix series
By Mads Lennon
What do we know so far about Bridgerton Season 1, the first Shonda Rhimes-Netflix collaborative series?
Netflix has finally unveiled the first official peek at Shonda Rhime’s new Netflix series Bridgerton Season 1. The romantic drama will debut on the streaming service this Christmas.
While we don’t yet have a trailer for the new series, but Netflix has released several photos for the series and it looks like no expense was spared. The costumes are gorgeous, as is the sumptuous London backdrop.
Rhimes has tried her hand at romantic dramas before, with the ABC series Still Star-Crossed. It didn’t fare well with critics despite being pretty to look at. Let’s hope her new show will perform better. Rhimes herself is not the showrunner on this project, that duty falls to her frequent collaborator on Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, Chris Van Dusen.

Based on the best-selling book series of the same name by Julia Quinn, the drama follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor from Younger), the eldest daughter of the respected Bridgerton family.
Daphne is now of marriage age and seeking to find a suitor that sparks true love, following after her parents’ relationship. The market appears to be teeming with eligible bachelors until her high-society brother starts to rule them out one by one.
Making things even trickier is a scandal sheet from Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) — who seems to be like a Regency London Gossip Girl — that casts aspersions on Daphne’s character. Then she meets the charming but rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page from For the People), one of the most eligible bachelors in town.
Sparks fly between the pair immediately, despite both claiming to abhor everything the other stands for. Daphne and the Duke begin engaging in a battle of wits as they face off against society’s expectations for their future.
According to TVLine, the series also stars Luke Newton (The Lodge) as Colin Bridgerton, Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch) as Anthony Bridgerton, Ruby Barker (Wolfblood) as Marina Thompson and Golda Rosheuvel (Lady Macbeth) as Queen Charlotte.
