10. Best Canadian shows: Burden of Truth
Former Smallville actress Kristin Kreuk stars as attorney Joanna Hanley in this legal drama. A breakout show on the CBC, The CW officially picked it up in its early run for their summer programming slate. Since then, it has run for three successful seasons with a fourth in the works.
In the first season, Joanna returns to conduct an undercover investigation into a pharmaceutical company allegedly making girls sick in her hometown of Milltown, Manitoba. Initially, Joanna is sent to represent the company but begins to realize the girls might legitimately need her help.
Burden of Truth is streaming on Hulu.
9. Best Canadian shows: Lost Girl
Lost Girl originally debuted on Showcase in Canada before Syfy started airing it in the states. This supernatural drama starred Anna Silk as a bisexual succubus striving to help people and uncover her origins. The series also starred Ksenia Solo, Zoie Palmer, Kris Holden-Reid and Rachel Skarsten.
It mixed elements of monster-of-the-week with an overarching plot. Later seasons were more serialized. Lost Girl ran for five seasons before it concluded, receiving lots of accolades and attention for its depiction of fluid sexuality and many primary queer characters.
Unfortunately, Lost Girl isn’t streaming right now, but it is available to purchase through most digital retailers like Amazon and iTunes.
