8. Best Canadian shows: Coroner

Serinda Swan (who also recurred on Smallville) stars in this popular medical drama that recently began airing on The CW. It was already a breakout hit in Canada but has also proved successful in the states. The CW picked up Coroner to flesh out its fall slate amid the ongoing pandemic.

Since then, the network has aired the first season and begun the second. They’ve also ordered the third season. The series has been renewed in Canada for Season 4, which The CW will likely pick up too. Coroner revolves around former ER doctor Jenny Cooper (Swan), who recently became a coroner that investigates suspicious deaths.

Coroner is streaming free on The CW app and website.

7. Best Canadian shows: Saving Hope

Like Kreuk, Erica Durance of Smallville fame went on to star in a Canadian show after the long-running superhero series ended. Saving Hope was a beloved supernatural medical drama set at the fictional Hope Zion Hospital. Durance played Chief Surgical Resident Dr. Alex Reid, whose fiancé, Dr. Charles Harris, gets into a tragic car accident on route to their wedding that leaves him comatose.

Throughout the first season, we follow Alex dealing with her patients and Charles as he roams the hospital in a ghostly state. The show ran for five successful seasons before concluding.

Saving Hope is not streaming at the moment but is available for purchase through digital retailers such as Amazon and iTunes.
