2. Best Canadian shows: Transplant
Like Coroner, Transplant is another Canadian import used to pad out the fall television season amid the pandemic. NBC began airing the captivating medical drama in September, and it has quickly caught on with American audiences.
The series revolves around Bashir “Bash” Hamed, a Syrian doctor who travels to Canada as a refugee from the Syrian Civil War. He works hard to rebuild his career as a medical resident within the York Memorial Hospital’s emergency department in Toronto. Transplant also focuses on many of Bash’s coworkers, similar to other medical dramas.
Transplant is available to stream on Hulu and Peacock TV.
1. Best Canadian shows: Orphan Black
Orphan Black is another massive international hit that originated in Canada. The sci-fi thriller series is what helped Tatiana Maslany become such a renowned, acclaimed actress. The show’s premise revolves around clones, so Maslany had the difficult task of playing multiple characters who all look the same but have completely different and unique personalities.
She consistently received praise for her dedicated, nuanced work. Sarah Manning, a con artist, is at the epicenter of the series after witnessing one of her clones, Elizabeth Childs, commit suicide. Sarah impersonates Elizabeth and soon finds herself drawn deeper into an increasingly complicated conspiracy.
Orphan Black is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
