‘Truth Seekers’ Episode 5 recap: ‘The Ghost of the Beast of Bodmin’

Truth Seekers Episode 5: Will Gus figure out his dad is in danger?

In the previous episode of Amazon Prime’s Truth Seekers, we find out that Gus’s idol Dr. Peter Toynbee is not all he is cracked up to be. He is into some dark magic of sorts and has put Richard under his spell. We start Truth Seekers Episode 5 in a building that is undergoing a lockdown or drill. A man is holding the eye of a Dr. to gain access to a restricted section. He then puts a tongue up for a second entry point.

This man opens a glass case and puts a hand up to a third entrance. Finally, he gets to what he is looking for. He takes the ripped out spell page into the glass case. This must be how Toynbee got it and this man could actually be a younger Toynbee.

Back at Gus’s house, Elton and Gus are working on something at his desk. Elton asks about his wife Emily, but Gus plays it off. Astrid then walks in with someone that has a request for their services at Bodmin. This woman took a picture of a cat beast looking thing. Elton thinks it is probably about 6 feet long. Elton doesn’t want to go to the job, but of course, they go.

Dr. Toynbee is now in the car with the man that was sitting next to Richard at the Con. Toynbee asks him a question, but he says that he isn’t the one. Toynbee then gets out of the car and then makes the man explode. Elton, Gus, and Astrid are gearing up to go out. Richard is complaining about being left alone, but Helen is going to come over to keep him company.

Their boss, Dave, calls while they are in the van. Once they hang up, Dave gets an email of a picture of himself sitting at his desk. Hmm?

Helen and Richard are now hanging out. Richard got dressed up for her. Helen notices that something is wrong with Richard’s eye, but he brushes it off. She insists that she gets a closer look. She notices a puncture mark and asks him about it. But, he doesn’t remember. He wants to take a picture so she can recreate it on her channel.

Truth Seekers Episode 5 recap: Beware of the Beast

The van makes its way out to Bodmin. Elton starts to film Gus for the channel. They walk through a field and notice some large droppings on the ground.

Gus wants Elton to put it in a bag and put it in his backpack. While they are gathering it, they begin to hear the beast. All three of them start to run, they can’t see the beast but they can hear it. Then they all run to the building but it is locked. Astrid is able to unlock it and they all run inside.

When they get inside, they see a lit cigarette and a hot cup of coffee. Someone has been there recently. Elton touches the vending machine and a secret door opens. Of course, they walk in. It leads them downstairs and into a room. They hear a recording of the beast. They figure out that someone is playing a trick on them. The beast from the picture is a cardboard cut out on the wall.

The woman behind the beast had hoped that Gus would come. She thinks that Smyle is a part of some kind of program so that they can transmit brain waves and she says that Toynbee is a fake. Gus and this woman exchange numbers and they leave. Back at home, Helen leaves and Richard is starting to notice something weird going on with his eyes.

Truth Seekers: Final Thoughts

I really like where this is going. The storyline is coming together and we are beginning to see some twists and turns. Could Smyle be a part of a larger picture? I would rate this episode a B+. We get some new information, but nothing that knocks our socks off!
