Netflix has released the first official teaser for its upcoming Shondaland period drama Bridgerton, and it looks juicy!

Shonda Rhimes and Netflix have collaborated on the first of several impending series under Rhimes’s major streaming deal. Bridgerton, a drama taking place during the height of the marriage season in Regency England, is the first to release, and we finally have an official teaser trailer!

While the teaser doesn’t officially introduce us to many of the characters, it does give us at least one very vital bit of information. The legendary Julie Andrews will be voicing a Regency-era Gossip Girl-like character named Lady Whistledown. Per the teaser, she’s out to uncover every salacious detail and any scandalous secrets our characters might be hiding.

“If there’s a scandal, I shall uncover it,” says the scandal sheet author, “and share every last detail.”

Bridgerton is based on a series of novels written by Julia Quinn. The show will follow a family of eight siblings as they navigate the marriage market.

Showrunner Chris Van  Dusen briefly spoke to Entertainment Weekly about Andrews’s involvement. “When is Julie Andrews ever not the right fit? She’s brought so much to this character. She gets to say some really scathing, non-Julie Andrews things that I’m excited for people to hear. The things coming out of Julie Andrew’s mouth, as Lady Whistledown, she relishes in the cheeky things, which is a lot of fun.”

As we previously reported, the first season will mostly draw from Quinn’s first book, which follows the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), as she seeks out a marriage candidate for which she feels a spark of true love. Things become tricky when Lady Whistledown sets her sights on Daphne, casting aspersions on her characters.

Fans of the show still have a while to wait, as the first season of Bridgerton won’t officially begin streaming until Christmas Day. Still, since movie theaters will probably remain closed by that point, at least it’s something to look forward to after opening presents!
