Truth Seekers: How does it all end? Will Toynbee be taken down?

In the previous episode of Amazon Prime‘s Truth Seekers, Gus is clued in on Toynbee’s big plan by his wife and a little help from her father. Gus, Astrid, and Elton are on their way to Toynbee’s location, but will they be too late?

We begin this episode at Toynbee’s, only we are back in time because Emily is alive. He is showing her what he has created. She is asking him about his protocols. But when the eclipse happens, he reaches out and slits her throat. Her soul is coming out of her the way the dog and doll did, but we don’t know where they go. We think Toynebee is collecting them.

Back at Smyle, Dave and Bjorn are still trying to triangulate where the emails are coming from. They get a place, and it is only 10 minutes away from them. Gus, Elton, and Astrid show up at Toynbee’s location and see everyone walking toward the building. They realize someone is checking the minion’s eyes for the red mark before they go in.

Lucky for them, Helen took a picture of Richard’s eye and can replicate it. Dave has now figured out that he is being played and calls Gus. When Gus answers, he tries to lie to Dave about his whereabouts. But, Dave seems to be up to date on what Toynbee is up to. But how?

Dave asks Gus to trust him and says that he can short out the nanobots if Gus gets the internet back up. But Jojo, from the episode “The Ghost of the Beast of Bodmin,” had just called warned Gus not to trust anybody.

Gus ends up lying to Jojo and trusting Dave, but then the line cuts out. The number station starts up again with the numbers 1, 5, 9, 7. Only this time, it is a woman’s voice—Toynbee’s assistant.

Truth Seekers: The final showdown

Gus, Helen, Astrid, and Elton know where they need to go. Elton and Astrid go to the hotel. Helen and Gus infiltrate Toynbee’s building. After a few minutes, Gus and Helen are captured and are getting nanobots put in their eyes.

Elton and Astrid go to the number station and try to talk to the assistant. Only she isn’t going anywhere. Elton tries to hit the machine, but it does nothing. Astrid tries to convince Elton to open the door and let her go into the machine with the assistant. Elton does it. You can then hear Astrid and the assistant start to fight.

Toynbee is now starting his ceremony and is asking everyone if they are ready. He starts to read the incantation. While reading, Gus emerges from one of the red capes behind Toynbee. He was never injected. He attacks Toynbee, and they begin to fight.

The girls are still fighting in the machine when the crow shows up, and Elton is forced to face it on his own. Back at Smyle, Dave is trying to get the 8g network up and running to short the nanobots. Toynbee gets away from Gus and is about to kill all of the people.

Astrid tries one more time to convince the assistant to move on. Astrid is telling her that Elton can bring her back. The crow gets closer to Elton, but this time Elton decides to face it head-on and says that he isn’t afraid. Some pictures flash in Elton’s mind, but then the crow goes away.

Toynbee slits his own throat and proceeds to try and kill everyone, but the internet goes live, and everyone is released from his trance. Elton goes to get the girls out of the number station, but they are both gone. Gus, Helen, and Richard are reunited. Jojo is in her basement and seems to be on Toynbee’s side. She seems aggravated that Gus restored service to the area.

Elton goes to pick up Helen, Gus, and Richard. They ask about  Astrid. He tells them the whole story. Gus thinks that she is still out there, and they all drive into the sunset. Back a Smyle, Dave gets a visit from Jojo. Jojo is apologizing to Dave about using Toynbee. Then there is something said about being “superbeings.” Could they be part of a bigger picture? Or the supernatural world?

Finally, we see a painting over Dave’s desk begin to morph until it becomes a face, and then a voice says, “hello?” It is most definitely Astrid.

Truth Seekers: Final Thoughts

I knew Toynbee would be defeated somehow, but things took a turn when Dave got involved. I also didn’t figure we would lose Astrid after discovering that she was dead not too long ago. I would rate this episode an A. The puzzle pieces came together slightly different than I anticipated and took us for a ride. I also liked how they left the door open for another season.
