Young Wallander Season 2: Netflix officially renews the prequel series

Kurt Wallander will be back to solve more cases after Netflix greenlights Young Wallander Season 2.
While it was only September when Young Wallander first launched on Netflix, doesn’t it kind of feel like a lifetime ago, now? Regardless, yesterday, Deadline revealed that Netflix had decided to move forward with Young Wallander Season 2!
The Yellow Bird produced series is based on the Hennig Mankell novels and is hardly the first live-action adaptation of the famed Swedish police inspector. In the past, the character was portrayed by Kenneth Branagh, but Swedish actor Adam Palsson has taken over the role in the Netflix version.

In Season 1 of Young Wallander, a rookie Kurt becomes part of a disturbing case after failing to save a teenager from dying a horrendous death.
We don’t know what the second season will entail just yet, but considering Kurt ended Season 1 by leaving the force with Mona (Ellise Chappell) by his side, we can safely assume that decision won’t be permanent.
Aside from Palsson and Chappell, Season 1 also starred Richard Dillane, Leanne Best, Yasen Atour, Charles Mnene, Jacob Collins-Levy, Alan Emrys and Kiza Deen.
When will Young Wallander Season 2 premiere?
According to the publication, we can anticipate the next season in 2021. That said, it’s not clear when, exactly, the sophomore season will debut next year. I would assume that Netflix will aim for a fall premiere again. So long as production can safely start soon amid the pandemic, I don’t see any reason why the show wouldn’t be able to stay on track and premiere around the same time as the first season.
