After Lily leaves her boot behind at the concert without a notebook, Dash and Boomer try to track her down Cinderella-style in Dash and Lily Episode 4.

Both Dash and Lily are bummed to discover their game has screeched to a halt in Dash and Lily Episode 4. Lily is on lockdown now that her grandfather is home, and Dash is disheartened when he discovered Lily didn’t leave her notebook behind with the band. He starts to think she doesn’t want to talk to him anymore. The only thing he has of hers is the red boot she left behind.

Boomer and Dash try to use her boot to track her down, initially thinking she might have left it as a clue. Inside, Dash sees a tag labeled “TDF,”  which leads them to a costume rental store. The woman who owns it says the boots were used in the Music Man‘s original production and then subsequently loaned out to a high school and never returned, although a woman named Lillian did send money to pay for them.

After some pleading from Dash, he manages to get the saleslady to help him on his mission, securing an address to what he thinks is Lily’s house. It’s not. It’s her beloved Aunt’s apartment, the woman she’s been calling Mrs. Basil E, based on the book character of the same name. Her real name is also Lillian.

Lillian listens to Dash’s story, recognizing him after mentioning the red notebooks — since Lillian gave them to her dear great-niece. She ultimately decides to help  Dash after he admits that he cares about Lily and agrees to deliver a message.

After everything that happened at the club, Lily feels disheartened and like she’s not the girl Dash wants her to be. Langston, who has fallen ill after spending too many romantic nights on the roof with  Benny, refuses to take her notebook to Two  Boots  (the pizza parlor where Boomer works) if she wants to quit. He tells her to do it herself if she wants to break things off so badly.

But Lily can’t at the moment because her grandfather has her under strict grounding. Things get a little better when Lillian shows up. In the past, she and Lily’s grandfather had a massive falling out, so it’s the first time Lily has seen her aunt for a while. As Lily’s godmother, Lillian demands to get her chance to defend Lily to her grandpa, and they have a conversation while Lily waits for results in her room.

She emerges to find her grandfather crying and her aunt on the way out the door. Lillian tells Lily to sit down and talk to her grandpa so they can work things out. He tells her that he proposed to his girlfriend Mabel while in Florida, and she said no, that’s why he came back so early. Mabel doesn’t want to move to New York, but her grandfather thinks he can’t leave because it’s where his family is.

Lily points out that there are worse things than sitting around a pool in Florida with someone who makes you feel less lonely. He apologizes for being so harsh on her and her brother, lifting her grounding and offering to take her out for ice cream. Instead, Lily decides they should go to Two Boots.

There, she gives Boomer the notebook and begs him to deliver to Dash by 5 p.m. Boomer barely makes the cut-off, and Dash finally gets the notebook again. This time, Lily tells him what happened at the club and then advises him to check out the lights, specifically at the nutcracker house.

At first, Dash can’t focus on anything except how fake it all looks, but Lily tells him to give it another chance. She writes about how we’re meant to make our own magic and believe in this we would never have thought possible. Dash arrives in front of the final stop just in time for Lily to send him  “a sign,” which happens to be the world “Believe” all lit up in the yard.

And just as Dash sees it, it starts to snow. He actually looks like he might be catching the holiday spirit! But then, in the final moments of Dash and Lily Episode 4, Dash gets a text from his ex, Sofia. She’s in town, and she wants to see him. Uh-oh.
