Dash and Lily Episode 7 recap: ‘Christmas’
By Mads Lennon
Dash and Lily’s first real meeting is a major disappointment for both of them. Meanwhile, Lily’s world crumbles in Dash and Lily Episode 7.
It’s Christmas Day, and Lily is excited at the possibility of finally learning Notebook Boy’s name. Unfortunately, as she rushes downstairs to embrace Christmas morning in Dash and Lily Episode 7, she is dismayed to find the notebook never arrived. Lily visits her Aunt Lillian, who was supposed to receive the notebook from Dash, but she hasn’t seen it yet.
While visiting, Lily’s caroling troupe invites her to a local alehouse for some drunken caroling. Lillian persuades her to go hang out with her friends, promising to “dash” the notebook right over should it arrive. “No pun intended.”

Lillian’s slip of the tongue gets Lily thinking. “Dash. Why would ‘dash’ be a pun?” Then she puts two and two together. “Is he fast? Is he a hyphen?” Lily recalls Dash’s original clue about his name being a “connector of words.”
His name is Dash! And, better yet, she remembers meeting him at Priya’s party! But there’s a hitch. She also remembers Dash leaving with Sofia. Wanting to be wrong about her fear, Lily calls Boomer, and he confirms that it’s true, Dash left with his ex, Sofia.
Heartbroken and thinking Dash officially chose Sofia over her, Lily accepts her friend’s invitation to the alehouse and gets drunk on peppermint schnapps. Only one person comments that she’s underage, so I guess we’re just supposed to accept the laws are lax in this particular establishment.
Then Lily remembers Edgar wanted to kiss her and sends him a drunken text to meet her there. They kiss, and I went NOOOO because Edgar is such a tool, and as luck would have it, Dash arrives with the notebook and boot in hand and sees Edgar eating Lily’s face.
Dash and Lily Episode 7 recap: Let’s rewind to Christmas Eve night.
While Dash and Sofia did make out for a bit, that was as far as things went. Dash ultimately realized that his feelings for Lily are much stronger than any lingering emotions he has for Sofia. What’s more, he doesn’t think Sofia really wants to restart things with him either. She admits that Dash is the familiarity she seeks when her dad constantly drags her from one country to the next. They decide they’re done, for real, but agree to spend the night at the Morgan Library — as friends.
Well, on Christmas morning, Dash gets an update from the Mommy app that Boomer downloaded. Someone took a picture of Lily with her single red boot in McSorley’s, and Dash realizes where to find it. Overcome with the magic of Christmas for the first time, he goes to buy tickets to the new Pixar movie Collation and then rushes into the pub and finds Lily making out with Edgar, devastating him. Knowing he can take Lily to his aunt’s house, Dash tells Edgar he can get her home.
During the cab ride, Dash and Lily have a heartbreaking conversation about their shared lies and miscommunications. Dash tells Lily that he was only with Sofia to break things off permanently so that he could be together with Lily. Then he assumes that she’s with Edgar. Lily tells him she’s not, and she wanted her first kiss to be with him, but he wasn’t there. She also tells him that Boomer said he would be “nicer,” making Dash realize that Boomer, too, has been lying.
At Lillian’s, Dash tells Lily’s aunt that it’s over. She advises him not to give up on the game when it’s getting interesting. “I don’t want to play a game anymore.” Poor Lily winds up getting in major trouble with her grandfather after breaking curfew and turning up drunk. To rub salt in the wound, when she gets home, she discovers that her brother worked hard to get her entire family there for Christmas, including their parents, to surprise Lily. The second she sees them, she pukes in her boot and then retires to bed.
Later, Lily’s parents stop by her bedroom to encourage her to join the family. It’ll be the last big gathering for a while because Lily’s dad has accepted the job offer in Fiji. They’re moving in a week. Lily is understandably devastated.
As for Dash, he shows up at Boomer’s to give him his Christmas gift and confront him about lying. Boomer says he was doing it to look out for Dash and invites him to join his family for Christmas dinner. Dash rejects the offer and heads home to sulk.
Finally, Lily reads Dash’s final message in the notebook. He says they set themselves up for failure because neither would ever be what the other expected. Dash adds that the worst part of playing a game is that someone has to lose. This time they both did. “Game over.” He wishes Lily a Merry Christmas and says goodbye, not intending to see her again. Then he goes to see Collation alone. Well, who else is a little teary-eyed?
