2. Best Thanksgiving shows on Netflix: Anne with an E

Anne with an E is a newer show, with the first season premiering in 2017 and the last in 2019, but it is based on a literary classic. Based on the Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery, this show tells the story of Anne Shirley (Amybeth McNulty) as she arrives at Green Gables after being adopted by brother and sister Matthew Cuthbert (R.H. Thomson) and Marilla Cuthbert. (Geraldine James). Unfortunately for Anne, the siblings had been expecting a boy to help them with the farm chores.

While Matthew likes Anne from the beginning, Marilla is somewhat distrusting of her. Luckily for both Anne and the audience, Marilla eventually realizes her mistake, and the two siblings adopt Anne, who takes the name, Anne Shirley Cuthbert. Anne struggles to fit in with society in Avonlea, where Green Gables is located initially, but her intelligence and imagination end up serving her well.  She eventually makes friends, including her best friend Diana Barry (Dalila Bela).

This show is perfect for watching on Netflix for Thanksgiving weekend because, much like Gilmore Girls, it has heart.  In fact, so much heart that when Netflix canceled it in 2019, fans fought to save it. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful, but luckily the three seasons that were made remain on Netflix for everyone to watch. So watch and enjoy! You won’t regret it.

1. Best Thanksgiving shows on Netflix: One Day at a Time

This one is a bit complicated, we admit. Unfortunately, this show has a complex story of cancellation and renewal. After three seasons, it was canceled by Netflix, only to be saved by Pop TV/CBS. Therefore season 4 of the show has aired on Pop TV & CBS, but it is unclear whether or not season 4 will ever be streaming on Netflix. However, this shouldn’t ruin your fun as the first three seasons of One Day At A Time are available to stream on Netflix for Thanksgiving weekend.

Like with all of the above shows, this show has got heart. It follows single mother, Penelope Alvarez (Justina Machado)  as she tries to raise her two children Elena (Isabella Gomez) and Alex (Marcel Ruiz). Luckily for Penelope, she has help. Her mother Lydia Riera (Rita Moreno) and neighbor/landlord Schneider (Todd Grinnell) have her back.

This show deals with important topics in a lighthearted way. It isn’t too serious, making it a perfect show to watch on Netflix on Thanksgiving weekend. You’ll find yourself laughing along and amused by the antics of the Alvarez family, as well as touched by all the sweet moments. So treat yourself to seasons 1-3 of One Day At A Time. You won’t regret it.
