The final ten episodes of Vikings Season 6 will be moving to Amazon Prime Video.

History channel’s hit series Vikings is coming to an end with a final ten episodes, which fans have been waiting to debut for a while now. However, the final ten episodes of Vikings Season 6 (which received a 20-episode order that was then split into two halves) will be moving from History to Amazon Prime Video, reports Deadline.

The transition is part of a deal that will grant Amazon Prime the exclusive first-run of the MGM drama’s last season. All ten episodes will be available to watch via Amazon Prime Video on December 30 in the United States, United Kingdom, Austria, Germany and Ireland.

Those who don’t subscribe to Amazon will either have to bite the bullet and purchase (or get a trial) subscription to watch the final ten episodes or wait for History to run them later. It’s not clear when History would be able to run the final batch of episodes since it will only have second-window rights. The move is surprising but seems par for the course for A+E Networks as they move away from scripted series and focus more on limited miniseries.

What makes this arrangement more surprising is that a Vikings spin-off titled Vikings: Valhalla is currently in the works at Netflix. It’s possible that the division of the franchise between three different streamers/channels could lessen the number of overall eyeballs. Still, the show does have enduring popularity, as does the era, with Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla performing exceedingly well, so I’m sure the overall canon will prevail.

Brad Beale, the vice president of Worldwide Content Licensing for Prime Video, said, “Prime Video has already delighted Prime members with all five and a half seasons of Vikings. On December 30, Prime members in the U.S., UK, Germany, Austria and Ireland will be the first to learn the fates of the beloved characters as the epic drama concludes in the final 10 episodes.”

Show creator Michael Hirst also released a statement, “Our monumental Vikings saga is coming to its conclusion, but not before you’ve had to chance to watch some of my all-time favorite episodes. Prime Video will uniquely expose the series finale to a streaming audience first. Prepare to be astonished, and for many surprises along the way. And if you have tears to shed, then also be prepared to shed them.”
