Praise be, The Handmaid’s Tale is getting another season!

The Handmaid’s Tale has already been renewed for season 5 ahead of its fourth season which is set to premiere in 2021. Given all the critical acclaim the series has received over the course of the last three seasons, it comes as no surprise that The Handmaid’s Tale is getting another installment and a chance to continue its wild story.

The season 5 announcement came during Disney’s Investor Day, which was a day filled with all sorts of surprises, to say the least. But The Handmaid’s Tale fans were certainly shocked when a video of the cast was released with the big announcement.

Everyone from Elisabeth Moss to Alexis Bledel to Bradley Whitford dropped by to inform fans the story of Gilead shall continue. Although, I must ask myself, what will Gilead look like by the time we get to Season 5?

Well, before we think about that, let’s discuss what the next season will dive into.

What will The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 be about?

The Season 3 finale ended with the children of Gilead safely arriving in Canada, away from the brutal dictatorship and isolation of their former lives. But the thing to take note of here is that these kids didn’t get taken to their parents, but rather away from them and transported to a different country.

I think it’s safe to say that the fourth season is going to explore Gilead’s issue with this, and how they’ll essentially go to war over it. In their eyes, they won’t see the kids being whisked away to safety, but rather being kidnapped. And since Gilead operates under its own set of bizarre, totalitarian rules, they will most likely try to exert their power and try to get the children back.

Unfortunately for them, they will have June (Elisabeth Moss) to contend with, who stayed back in Gilead, if only to destroy from within. We’ve seen June’s rise to fighting against the system, and it’s been one hell of a journey.

She went from a timid, awkward girl to a fierceless, relentless woman hellbent on freeing herself from the shackles of Gilead and its power. And she hasn’t done a horrible job if I’m being honest.

And now with season 4 premiering sometime next year, we can only imagine where this story is going next. Will June finally free Gilead? Will the days of their totalitarian rule be over? And will she make her way to Canada eventually?

Given that there is a season 5 to look forward to, that might not be happening just yet, but we can only hope that the fight against Gilead is bigger, better, and more fierce than it has ever been!
