Netflix’s highly anticipated fantasy adaptation Shadow and Bone revealed its premiere date alongside the first teaser trailer.

After Netflix took the world by storm with its stellar adaptation of The Witcher, Netflix is once again ready to take charge and turn another successful fantasy franchise, Shadow and Bone into a hit TV show.

Netflix has finally revealed the first teaser trailer for its upcoming fantasy series Shadow and Bone, an adaptation of author Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy and her Six of Crows duology.

The series, which was announced back in 2019, finally revealed that it would be coming to our screens in April 2021. And while it is still a few months away, we have waited for so long; we can surely wait some more.

Academy Nominee Eric Heisserer is the showrunner.

More from Netflix

TVGuide had plenty of information about the show and what fans can expect. Bardugo and the showrunner Eric Heisserer, who also worked on the screenplay for the Academy Award-nominated film Arrival dished on the upcoming show and revealed a few interesting things that fans can anticipate.

Both the Grisha books and Six of Crows are set in the same universe, which has given Shadow and Bone the freedom to adapt them both at the same time. Although it will have another Witcher spin to it as they both are set in different time frames, so we’ll get to see and explore different sides of these characters.

Both the book series are set in chronological order, but Six of Crows has a different set of characters. We don’t see those characters until the conclusion of the Shadow and Bone books, but Leigh and Eric have been working on creating prequel stories for the key Six of Crows characters to be introduced right with the show’s start; Kaz, Inej, and Jesper. Their stories will fit alongside what’s happening in the Shadow and Bone series of events.

Bardugo had been continuously praising Heisserer for his take on the books and the way he took two fantasy series together with such complex power structures, creatures, and horror elements to it and made them into such coherent and complete spectacle of work onscreen. She assured fans that the adaptation would be a delight to them, and she can’t wait for them to see it.

Heisserer also talked about this extra, new content, and new interactions that were never there and how excited he is for “certain characters to meet certain other characters,” which doesn’t happen in the books, and he can’t wait to see the reactions of the fans on it.

Shadow and Bone has fans excited with its casting already as we just can’t wait to see Westworld’s Ben Barnes as General Kirigan alongside Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Freddy Carter will be playing Kaz Brekker, Archie Renaux will star as Malyen Oretsev, Amita Suman and Kit Young as Inej and Jesper Fahey respectively.
