This year we saw a lot of canceled TV shows, whether because of ratings, COVID-19 or something else. These are the 14 cancellations that hurt the most.

From the critically-acclaimed GLOW to lesser-known shows like Peacock TV’s Brave New World, 2020 has seen dozens of television shows come and go. I’ve compiled a list of 14 canceled TV shows that stung the most.

The following list focuses on shows that were canceled suddenly or came to a premature end, not series that were announced as ending and given a final season. Also, the list isn’t in any particular order!

14. Canceled TV shows: Away

Hilary Swank and Josh Charles starred in Netflix’s space drama Away, which premiered this fall. The first season followed the first official trip to Mars, with Swank’s character portraying the crew’s captain. It became an emotional, captivating show that genuinely made you care for each character and their relationships throughout the first season.

In the finale, the group had finally made it to Mars, and had the show gotten renewed we would have seen them setting up their civilization on the planet and studying the surroundings. Unfortunately, Netflix decided not to move forward with another season, which is incredibly disappointing for all of us who wanted to see what would happen when the astronauts returned to Earth after three years away.

13. Canceled TV shows: Brave New World

Based on the classic dystopian science fiction novel by Aldous Huxley, Brave New World was supposed to be Peacock TV’s big prestige television show to attract new viewers to the fledgling streaming service. The first season debuted to mixed reviews, with many critics feeling it didn’t introduce anything new to the genre.

I enjoyed Brave New World and grew attached to the cast and characters quickly. The finale left tons of unanswered questions and set up some significant cliffhangers for a second season, but now we’ll never know what would have happened to Bernard and Wilhelmina out in the Savage Lands or what was inside the gold box.
