Equinox ending explained: What really happened to Ida & Astrid?

Equinox ending explained: What happened to the other grad students?
Once the Hare King has what he wants, he has no more need for the other students — who have spent decades held captive inside of trees. He releases them. In the last moments of the episode, we see the students trudging through a field, looking exactly as they did the night they vanished, albeit a little worse for the wear.
Equinox ending explained: Lingering questions
Equinox is one of those shows that doesn’t answer everything and leaves a lot of mystery open to viewers to theorize and figure out for themselves. There are a few things I’m still pondering.
What was Jakob, Amelia and Falke’s real purpose?
Jakob is the one that sets Ida’s sacrifice in motion after stealing Henrik’s grimoire and becoming obsessive over the cult. But then when Ida has sex with the Hare King, he, Falke and Amelia ice her out and never really speak to her again. Why? Why did the Hare King leave them alone while he took all of the other students? Was Jakob’s role to lead Ida to him all along? Did he choose the wrong girl because, as Amelia says, he didn’t know Ida and Ostara were not really sisters? Or were Ida and the King fated to be together as per the fable where the bird and hare fell in love?
It kind of seems like those three might have been working for the Hare King all along because each one plays a substantial role in luring Astrid to him in the present and Ida in the past. As Harald Birch said, if he had to make any concentrated guess on what happened to the students, it was that Amelia, Jakob and Falke knew more than they were letting on — perhaps the biggest understatement of the season.
Further supporting that theory is the fact Amelia knew that Astrid and Ida were not really sisters, both she and Falke suggested that Astrid talk to her mother to learn more.
Will the Hare King come for Astrid’s daughter?
Several of the hints throughout the season led me to believe that Astrid’s daughter, Vera would be the one the Hare King really wanted. That doesn’t turn out to be the case, but it does make me wonder if she might be at risk in 21 years’ time!
