The Great North is yet another charming animated entry into Fox’s line-up.

From the team that brought us Bob’s Burgers comes another hilarious and heartwarming animated series called The Great North. While the latest animated series on Fox doesn’t officially premiere until February, Fox offered viewers a sneak peek last night alongside their new sitcom Call Me Kat following the NFL on Fox doubleheader. Of the two new shows, The Great North is easily the superior option.

This new series follows another eccentric family, this time led by Nick Offerman’s character Beef Tobin. The Tobin family lives in Alaska and Beef is dedicated to keeping his kids close to him. The first episode revolves around the conflict between Judy (Jenny Slate) and her dad after she gets a job at the local mall behind his back.

Based on the first episode alone, it looks like The Great North is going to be another surefire hit for Fox. The network seems to agree since they’ve already renewed it for a second season! If you like Bob’s Burgers and Central Park, then it’s almost a sure thing that you’ll enjoy this series, too.

With a stronger start than Bob’s Burgers, this new show already feels grounded and as if the characters are well-defined. That said, as is often the case with pilot episodes, especially for comedies, the show will need a little work in finding the character dynamics and utilizing its setting to ensure it differs enough from Bob’s Burgers without just feeling like a similar story set in a different location.

But considering how strong the ensemble is, I have no doubt that it will find its way throughout the first season. Apart from Offerman and Slate, the comedy also features Will Forte, Dulcé Sloan, Paul Rust, Aparna Nancherla, Megan Mullally and Alanis Morissette.

Next. 7 shows we can't wait to watch this month on Netflix. dark
