Peaky Blinders will end with its sixth and final season.

Peaky Blinders, the breakout BBC drama that is distributed by Netflix in the United States and worldwide, will come to an end with its sixth and final season, reports Variety. The series is incredibly popular overseas but it was confirmed on Monday that it would be ending with its upcoming season which just resumed production in the United Kingdom under strict COVID-19 guidelines.

As Variety notes, the show’s ending is a little surprising because Knight previously said that the show would last until at least Season 7. But it’s likely that the pandemic and production shutdowns have caused the shift in plans that led to an accelerated ending. It’s likely that the last season will air sometime at the end of this year or potentially not until 2022, depending on how things pan out with the virus.

Creator Steven Knight says the story will continue in another form.

Despite the news that Peaky Blinders is ending, creator and writer Steven Knight has said that the story will continue.

In an official statement released today, Knight said,“’Peaky’ is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher. We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

There is no confirmation or details on what this other “form” of the story might be, but I would guess that they are looking to create a spin-off series or a film that will further the storyline. Some shows have even created comics to continue their stories after the on-screen portion is complete.
