Allen v. Farrow: How to watch the stirring new docuseries tonight
By Mads Lennon
The four-part documentary series Allen v. Farrow from award-winning investigative filmmakers Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering and Amy Hardy premieres tonight on HBO. Allen v. Farrow will go behind the sensational headlines to explore accusations of sexual abuse against famed director Woody Allen involving his then seven-year-old daughter Dylan Farrow.
Apart from discussing Farrow’s allegations against Allen, the series will also explore his relationship with Mia Farrow’s daughter, Soon-Yi; and the controversial aftermath that followed. Part 1 of the docuseries airs tonight Sunday, February 21 from 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT with new episodes set to air on subsequent Sundays at the same time.
The explosive docuseries is already receiving great reviews from critics, who say the series will reassess the public’s relationship to the director and delve into the discussion of whether you can truly separate art from the artist.
Matthew Gilbert of the Boston Globe writes, “I’m really glad I saw it. It lets Dylan, now 35, married and a mother, finally tell her own story at length. And it starkly reminds us of the serious strains of denial and hypocrisy in our culture regarding sexual abuse and incest.”
Nick Allen of RogerEbert.com says, “Another major addition to the slowly evolving public conscience about the honest behaviors of our celebrated creators.”
Weaving together intimate home movie footage, court documents, police evidence, never-before-heard audio tapes, and in-depth interviews with Ronan Farrow, Dylan Farrow and Mia Farrow, this series will go behind one of the most discussed Hollywood scandals in history. It also includes accounts from first-hand eyewitnesses, many of whom are speaking publicly about the alleged abuse for the first time.
