Golden Globes 2021: Emma Corrin wins Best Actress in a Drama Series for The Crown

Emma Corrin has taken home the Best Actress in a Drama Series award for her work as Princess Diana in Netflix’s historical drama The Crown. The win comes just one year after Olivia Colman earned an award for the same series the previous Golden Globe Awards.
Emma Corrin has received lots of praise for her work as Diana on The Crown Season 4 and has proved to be an early favorite for the award since first appearing in the series. Corrin’s win is also a good sign for the night’s biggest award, Best Drama Series, which The Crown is also expected to win.
Most of the time, the acting awards pair with the Best Drama and Best Comedy awards, as Elisabeth Moss previously won when The Handmaid’s Tale did and Claire Foy won when The Crown did during its first season back in 2016.
That said, Emma Corrin had some tough competition this year, especially against the likes of Laura Linney, who has consistently delivered phenomenal performances year after year in the other popular Netflix series, Ozark.

The fourth season of The Crown spanned from 1979 to the early 1990s, including Margaret Thatcher’s tenure as prime minister. Gillian Anderson, who played Thatcher, was also nominated for an award this evening.
However, apart from Anderson’s work, the biggest storyline of the fourth season was Lady Diana Spencer’s marriage to Prince Charles, a storyline that fans were eager to see the series cover, which also probably helped Corrin win the award this evening.
The final two seasons of The Crown will close out the series and cover the Queen’s reign into the 21st century. It’s not yet clear when Season 5 will premiere on Netflix.
